Sikh Pilgrimage Tour Itinerary: Wagha/Lahore Airport - Guduwara Sahib - Chakki Sahib - Sacha Sauda - Nankana Sahib - Lahore - Islamabad/Rawalpindi - Hasan Abdal (Panja Sahib) - Islamabad/Rawalpindi - Lahore. The early 19th century, Gurduwara of Panja Sahib became a famous Sikh pilgrimage center. Pilgrimages from India and the world over still come here every April for the Baisaki Festival. The temple on the right of Grand Trunk Road in the center of town is typical of the rather florid Sikh style with the gilded domes and copulas and stands in the middle of large stone water tank full of fish. 29 km (18 miles) southwest of Seikhupura, is an important place of pilgrimage. There are two Sikh temples or Gurduwaras here: Balila, where Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion, spent his childhood, and Janamasthsan where he is believed to have been born. The latter houses sacred relics belonging to the Guru, including a holy cloak embroidered with Koranic verses and said to have been presented to Guru Nanak by the caliph of Baghdad. Sikh history originates from Nankana Sahib as Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikh faith, was born here in 1469. The name of the place at that time was ‘Rai Bohi di Talvandiâ€. The landlord contemporary of Guru Nanak Dev was Rai Bular, who himself became devotee of the Guru. It was renamed Nankana after Guru. It is located about 75 km west-south–west of Lahore. Nankana Sahib is in Sheikhupura district and is connected to the district town by rail and road. There are several shrines connected with the memory of Guru Nanak Devâ€s childhood and early youth here. Some of them are Gurduwara Janam Asthans, Gurduwara Bal Lila, Gurduwara Patti Sahib and Sacha Sauda.
