Silk Road / route commonly known as the Karakorum Highway (KKH) lies in the north of Pakistan in a mountains region containing some of the world’s most incredible mountain landscapes. Between 1966 to 1978 it was due to the hard work and perseverance of Chinese and Pakistani engineers that a road was built above the shoulders of these gigantic mountains. More then five hundred lives be buried underneath this marvelous road. KKH links Islamabad with Kashgar over the Khunjerab Pass. It is over 1250 km in length and despite constant efforts the climate, snow and regular landslides often interrupt travel.
